1 pkg. dry yeast
3 Tbsp. warm water
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 cup shortening, melted
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 cup warm water
4 cups flour
butter, softened
Mix first 3 ingredients, set aside for about 10 minutes and allow to foam. In separate bowl, mix melted shortening, sugar, eggs and salt.
When yeast mixture has foamed, add to egg mixture and stir. Add 1 cup warm water and then flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing well.
Cover and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours.
Take dough out of fridge no less than 2 1/2 hours before meal time and divide equally into 4. On a floured surface, roll out each into a circle.
Spread with softened butter and cut into 8 pieces, like a pie or pizza (a pizza cutter works great for this). Beginning at the wide end, roll up each piece and place on lightly greased baking sheet.
Cover and allow to rise for 2 hours in a warm, draft-free place. Bake at 375*F for about 10 minutes, til a light golden brown.
