1 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
5 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup shortening
2 cups buttermilk or sour milk

Stir yeast into warm water and set aside.  Mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.  Cut in shortening.  Add yeast mixture and buttermilk and stir thoroughly.  Store in fridge until needed – can be kept for up to 2 weeks.  When ready to use, remove amount needed, and pat out on a floured surface.  Cut out biscuits, place on an ungreased baking sheet or pan, and bake at 400*F for about 15 minutes.
