Re: Weekly Challenge #1 – Ice Cream Cake and Build-A-Bear Party – SUCCESS!
I met my first Challenge of the Week, which was to make my first ever Ice Cream Cake. I think I can say, “It was a success!”, if the clean bowls at the birthday party were any indication!
I promised to get this post up today, so here it is. More detailed instructions will follow in a later post on how I did it – with a little innovation and the help of some cereal boxes (which you may be able to see in the background).
The second part of the challenge was to conduct a birthday party where the girls made Build-A-Bear kits. That also turned out pretty well. I’ll have to get a picture up of my daughter’s completed bear a little later.
In the meantime, I have to say goodbye to my current computer, which is on its way out (cough, cough, hack, crash), and move on to another. I feel a little sad – we have had a long working relationship.

Here’s a picture of the cake after a final ‘icing’ of vanilla ice cream, and a slightly melted attempt at ice cream decoration (using a decorator bag and tip) around the base. After this quick picture, I popped it right back into the freezer!

And here’s a picture of the (mostly eaten) cake after the party where you can see the layers inside.

Wow–looks delicious! I learned how to make a different kind of ice cream cake from one of my granddaughters–you just layer softened ice cream and crushed/broken chocolate bars a couple of times, top with whipped cream, re-freeze and then top with strawberries and more whipped cream when you serve.

Ooh, the whipped cream and strawberries sounds absolutely scrumptious! Thanks so much for sharing Susannah!

Looks super yummy. We just had some neapolitan straight from the bucket, but there’s something special about making it look pretty. I’m curious how you made it.

Thanks, Laurie Sue! Here’s the “How-To” for the Ice Cream Cake.
